Project 01
"Fossil of Thought” Project
The plan is to create stone shape object out of Tainan and Sapporo papers by using resin. I will use oldbooks, magazines, newspapers, and other printed materials sent from Tainan. Based on the materialsreceived, I would like to flesh out the images through online meetings to discuss past and present culture.
Based on the exchange, I would organize the genealogy of the images and create a thickness of over 200 overlapping sheets. In addition, I will make abstract image drawingswith electric pens and soldering iron which are inspired from conversations with people in Tainan and paper information sent to me. The drawing will be also woven into the layers as a proof of artist's consciousness intervention. After Adhesion with resin, it will be cut and polished by hand to form the stone shape.
In the work, past thoughts visualized in text and photographs are
stacked and expressed as fossils of thoughts. Since the transparency of the paper medium is created by the resin, I expect the printed contents of the lower layers to be visible and hidden in the layers.

Project 02
「Let Us Keep the Balance」
I will create a two-directional balance using thin iron bar material. The idea is to encourage viewers to imagine some matters that requires to be placed on two plates for balance adjustment.
As an example of what is to be measured, iron sand to be collected from the sea in Tainan and iron sand to be collected in Ishikari, Hokkaido, will be displayed on two balances so that they can be further balanced.
Iron sand looks the same at first glance, but there are differences in the ferromagnetism depending on the region where it is collected. I would like to create a place to think about and observe these visible and invisible differences. The weight of both sand will be carefully majored by scale to keep the good balance.
I would like to consult with the gallery about a platform to adjust the balance object to be settled on appropriate height.

The final exhibition of Absolute Space 2022 is curated by MARI HOMMA(本間真理), an independent curator from Hokkaido, Japan. "Through the Eyes of Hokkaido Artists", in which four Hokkaido artists, ERIKA KUSUMI (クスミエリカ), LEO FUJISAWA (藤沢レオ), RIE KAWAKAMI (川上りえ) and YUKA KASAI (葛西由香) , are invited to Absolute Space. The curator, MARI, hopes to express the uniqueness of Hokkaido artists and the connection between Hokkaido and Tainan through online exchange and research creation curation.
