◉ Introduction to Absolute Space Artist-in-Residence
Absolute Space Artist-in-Residence is located on Sanhe Street in the South District of central Tainan, sharing the same organization as Absolute Space. The residency is situated at the boundary between Tainan’s historic West Central District and the neighboring South District. Artists in residence can experience the area's rich cultural and historical atmosphere, the interweaving landscape of old and new architecture, and the vibrant local temple culture.
Tainan is also home to numerous art spaces, artists, and curators, offering many opportunities for exchange and collaboration. We hope that visiting artists will find inspiration in the community and the dynamic local culture.
The Absolute Space Artist-in-Residence Program aims to provide professional artists with a dedicated creative environment. Through workshops and exhibitions, we seek to foster dialogue between domestic and international artists, discover outstanding talents, and nurture an audience for the arts in Tainan.

◉ Residency Space, Duration, and Rent
1. Two-Week Rental（Only available at the Sanho Art Lab）

Sanho Art Lab: The second floor allows for renting only the room or both the room and the studio together; however, the studio facilities are shared. On the third floor, the room and studio must be rented together.

Please refer to the table below for prices and the sizes of the rooms and studios. All prices are in USD, and rentals of less than two weeks will still be charged as a two-week rental.

Absolute Space x Residency:
For the "Prince" and "Queen" rooms, you may rent the room only, while the studio must be rented separately. The studio is a shared space.
2. Monthly Rental

Sanho Art Lab:
On the second floor, you may rent only the room, only the studio, or both the room and the studio together. On the third floor, the room and studio must be rented together.

【Additional Notes】
(1) At Absolute Space x Residency, the King room contains two double beds, while the Queen and Prince rooms each have one double bed.
(2) At the Sanho Art Lab, the third floor requires renting both the accommodation and the studio together. The room size is 12 m², and the studio is 22.7 m².
(3) The studio at Absolute Space is a shared space.

**At Absolute Space x Residency, the 5th floor studio space is shared.
The studio provides internet access, work desks and chairs, as well as basic tools (such as electric drills, screwdrivers, hammers, saws, a bench drill, a scroll saw, an air compressor, and a nail gun.) Participants are required to bring or prepare their own tools, equipment, computers, and software needed for their creative work. Please note that the studios are not equipped with professional facilities such as workshops, photo studios, or editing rooms, and cannot provide DSLR cameras, video cameras, or tripods.

Bedroom Area: Located on the second floor, the unit includes a toilet, while the shower space is shared and located on the first floor of the residency building.

Amenities: The accommodation is equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, hairdryer, towels, change of bed linens, clothes hangers, kitchen, oven, refrigerator, microwave, glass-ceramic stove, washing machine, and other basic facilities.

◉ Exhibition Venue Rental

Location: Sanho Art Lab, 1F Exhibition Space (No. 14, Sanhe Street, South District, Tainan City)

Fee: USD$850/month；USD$250/week

Description: The fee includes venue rental, utilities (water and electricity), and internet charges.

Please note: The fee does not include costs for exhibition attendants or assistants, but the organization can assist in finding help if needed.

Application Period: Applications are accepted from now onward.

Review Process: Rolling review upon receipt.

Residency Period: November 1, 2025 – March 31, 2026; minimum stay.30 days, maximum stay 90 days.
◉ Eligibility and Qualifications

Open to artists and curators engaged in contemporary visual arts or related fields, regardless of nationality or artistic medium. This includes visual arts, interdisciplinary practices, performance art, as well as those conducting field research or residency-based studies.

Nationality: Open to applicants of all nationalities.

Applicants must be at least 20 years old.

Applicants should possess sufficient proficiency in Chinese or English to communicate effectively with staff.
◉ Application Materials and Procedure
‣ Applications are accepted online only. Please apply via the Absolute Space Artist-in-Residence online registration.
‣ Application documents should be combined into a single PDF file (A4 size) and placed in a folder named “LastName_FirstName” (e.g., Smith_David). Send the PDF via email to absolutespaceair@gmail.com with the subject line:
“2025 Absolute Space AIR Self-funded Residency Application.”
Required documents
• Application form: Please download and complete from here
• One or two referees: Provide name, position, affiliation, and email address.
• Personal resume/CV.
• Artist statement and portfolio of works from the past three years. If submitting video works, please upload to YouTube or Vimeo and include the link in the application form.
• Project proposal: Describe the focus of your residency project. Proposals may include specific projects already developed or completed (e.g., publications, books, artworks), or research on a particular theme to support future writing or creative work.
◉ Results Announcement
Selection will be conducted by a committee formed by Absolute Space AIR.
◉ Other Obligations
‣ Residents must keep the residency space and studios clean and tidy. Before check-out, the organizer will inspect the space. Any damage to equipment or failure to maintain cleanliness will require compensation or payment for cleaning fees.
‣ Artists must sign a “Cooperation Agreement” before the residency and pay 30% of the total fee as a deposit.
‣ A security deposit of NT$10,000 is required within three days of arrival in Taiwan for accommodation and studio use.

‣ Basic utilities during the stay, including water, electricity, internet, and simple equipment.
‣ Additional resources depending on the selected application plan, such as accommodation, studio, and exhibition space.

◉ Payment and Cancellation Policy
‣ Deposit: 30% of the total fee is required as a deposit and must be transferred to the designated account within one week after signing the contract.
‣ Security Deposit: A NT$10,000 accommodation security deposit must be paid within three days of arriving at the residency.
‣ Cancellation Policy: If the participant cancels or requests changes after signing the contract, cancellation must be made at least one month prior to the actual arrival date in Taiwan.
‣ If cancellation occurs less than one month before arrival, a penalty fee of 30% of the total cost will be charged. Any changes requested will require the participant to cover all related additional costs.

Yes, group applications are accepted. All rooms are equipped with standard double beds suitable for two people.
