Absolute Space AIR 2025: International Artist Residency Project

◉Dates

  • Application Period: From now until April 30 (Taiwan Standard Time, before 23:59:59)

  • Phase 1 Evaluation Period: May 1 (Thursday) to May 10 (Saturday)

  • Phase 1 Results Announcement: Before May 12 (Monday)

  • Phase 2 Interview and Evaluation Period: May 22 to May 28

  • Final Results Announcement: Before May 31 (Saturday)

◉Residency Periods

  • August 31 to October 29, 2025, with a minimum stay of 45 days and a maximum stay of 60 days.

◉Application Documents and Submission

  • Only online applications are accepted. Applicants must apply via the Absolute Space Artist Residency online platform.

  • Application documents should be combined into a single PDF file (A4 size) and placed in a folder named "LastName_FirstName" (e.g., Smith_David).

  • Send the folder to absolutespaceair@gmail.com, with the email subject titled "2025 Absolute Space AIR Application."

  • Application Form and Brochure: Please download and complete the form from here.

  • One to Two References: Provide the referees’ names, positions, organizations, and email addresses.

  • Personal Resume.

  • Artist Statement and Portfolio: Include works from the past three years. For video works, upload them to YouTube or Vimeo and include the links in the application form.

  • Project Proposal: Outline the key points of your residency project. The proposal can include specific projects that are already developed or completed (e.g., publications, books, artworks) or research on specific themes to support future writing or creative work.

◉  Eligibility Requirements

  • Artists engaged in contemporary visual arts or other related fields are welcome to apply, regardless of nationality or artistic discipline, including visual arts, interdisciplinary arts, and performance art.

  • Non-citizens of R.O.C.(Taiwan) (those who do not possess a Republic of China National Identification Card).

  • Applicants must be at least 20 years old and not currently enrolled as students during the residency period (excluding doctoral candidates).

  • Applicants must possess sufficient English/Chinese proficiency to communicate with staff.

◉   Announcement of Results

  • Selection will be conducted by the Absolute Space AIR Selection Committee.

  • Applicants may be required to submit additional documents and participate in an online interview.

◉  Responsibilities During the Residency

  • Participation in a welcome event for residency exchange.

  • Art talks and portfolio sharing sessions with local Taiwanese artists.

  • Open workshops.

  • Residency outcome exhibition: Creation of at least one new artwork based on the annual theme.

  • Opening presentation and artist talk for the residency outcome.

◉  Provided by the Organizer

  • Subsidy for round-trip economy class airfare for international artists.

  • Accommodation and studio space for artists. Artists must pay a TWD 10,000 security deposit within three days of arrival in Taiwan.

  • Daily living allowance of TWD 800 per day (subject to a 6% income tax deduction). 

  • Administrative support for artists.

  • Promotion and translation services (excludes creation material costs and artwork transportation fees).
