Second half of 2021
"Goodbye" is a commonly used phrase in daily life when we farewell to someone. Its meaning may encompass the hope of seeing each other again, anticipating future encounters, or simply acknowledging the act of parting. Farewell is not about abandonment but rather maintaining a distance that is neither too far nor too close, allowing for independent thinking and a clearer understanding of one's position and subjectivity. Just as the Absolute Space For The Art is like a mirror that reflects different themes from various fields, it provides the Tainan community and the public with opportunities to engage with a diverse range of Projects.
To respond to the current wave of contemporary art discussions in the latter half of the year, we have introduced two new Projects: "Curatorial Production and Practice" and "Art Criticism." In the "Curatorial Production and Practice" , we have invited WANG,PIN-HUA from National Changhua University of Education to deconstruct the curatorial mechanism based on her research and curatorial experience. Additionally, KUO,CHING-CHIEH will share practical insights into assisting artists or art institutions in exhibition installation. Finally, we have invited "“Selves-Educating”" to Tainan for an island-hopping project and organized discussions with other spaces to review and organize local art practices and curatorial situations.
The planning of the "Art Criticism Project " aligns with the "Absolute Broadcasting" event, aiming to cultivate more talents in the southern region. We have invited two young writers to serve as lecturers and share their writing experiences. The first is Xu Chu-jun, last year's winner of the "Absolute Broadcasting" award, who will explore how art can start from art based on her rich experience in writing and editing. The other is Shen Bo-yi, who has a long-standing focus on photography, and will discuss the necessity of alternative knowledge production in art criticism.
In the second half of the year, we will continue with the "Interdisciplinary Projects" to explore the diverse possibilities of contemporary art and practices in various fields through different domain experts sharing their expertise and research. We have invited architect LAI,PO-WEI to share his project on temple architecture in the narrow spaces of Taiwanese cities. LIN,KUEI-CHANG will reintroduce us to the charm of Taiwanese-language cinema based on his research. Author WANG,CHEN-KAI will lead us to rethink the new possibilities of traditional theaters from the perspective of new media trends by delving into his study of old cinemas. Lastly, dancer HSU,SHENG-HAN will conduct a special workshop on contemporary dance, offering us a glimpse into this relatively unfamiliar form of dance in Taiwan.
We will also continue the "Creative Methods Project " planned last year, inviting several artists to share their individual creative contexts. They include LIU,CHI-TUNG, who excels in field and landscape creation, and TIEN,TSUNG-YUAN, whose methods involve participatory creation and workshops. Furthermore, CHANG,WEN-HSUAN , who often takes inspiration from texts and literature, and TSENG,KUO-JUNG, who draws on local culture for conceptualization and creation, will also share their perspectives. Through the diverse creative contexts and thoughts of these young artists, we hope to deepen our understanding of the various vocabularies in contemporary art.
