2024-2025-Summoning Spirits × Dancing × Revelry
[Summoning Spirits × Dancing × Revelry] — Art and Culture Through a Southern Lens
The concept of the "South Plus: Constructing Historical Pluralism", introduced by the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts in 2019, emphasizes the cultural diversity and layered histories of southern Taiwan. It challenges centralized, singular historical narratives by highlighting the vital roles played by cities such as Kaohsiung and Tainan. This perspective seeks to reinterpret the region’s past through a variety of cultural lenses and experiences, focusing on the artistic and cultural expressions that emerge uniquely from the South.
By showcasing artworks, historical documents, and materials rooted in different communities, time periods, and cultural contexts, this approach reveals how art reflects and resonates with the lived experiences of southern communities.
Building on this localized vision, Absolute Space for the Arts launches the 2024–2025 themed workshop series:
[Summoning Spirits × Dancing × Revelry], inspired by Tainan’s rich temple traditions and local festivals. These workshops blend local culture with contemporary artistic practices, offering an engaging and in-depth experience.
Participants will immerse themselves in the rituals of traditional temple culture and deity parades, and create original artworks using everyday materials—merging cultural heritage with personal expression in vibrant and meaningful ways.
