Although none of the parents were involved in direct confrontations of that era, they were still caught up in the overlaps of their own past and the story as they filmed… Artists’ Statement This is a film made by the collaboration of four families. After the 2014 Sunflower Movement, we found our parents positive of the progress of democracy, however still doubtful of the legitimacy of social movements. Furthermore, while our parents grew up in the 1980s when social movements flourished, they had never been a part of one. As such, we decided to use filming as a mean to peek into the past of our family members and to convey to the families our values; inspired by the life story of White Terror era writer Shih, Ming-Cheng, we asked our parents to take on the roles of the dissidents of 1980s. It began with acting and imitating the dissidents of their imagination, but through advancing the plot the parents became entangled in their own past, and the film captured the reflection and introspection of their own lives. What comes out of this process is a movie that has in it the interactions between our closely bonded family members.
