:Statement:

Since 2013, Chiu Kuo-Chun’s “Wandering“ series has embarked on a visual journey that transcends the boundaries between reality and divinity, exhibiting across Taiwan, Japan, Korea, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Russia.

Beginning with “Land of Deities”, Chiu pioneered a cross-disciplinary fusion of photography and traditional Taiwanese embroidery. This was followed by “The Believers”, which extended his exploration of empathy among all living beings and the multiple symbols of religion. Finally,“ Fairyland of People” transformed this spiritual invocation into a poetic reimagining of Taiwanese folk faith and abandoned architectural spaces. Through years of international exhibitions and cross-cultural dialogue, the “Absolute Realm of Immortals”trilogy evokes the intertwined dimensions of “human–divine–environment,” seeking a spiritual passage between contemporary photography and faith.

In 2025, this decade-long wandering finally returns to Chiu’s hometown, Tainan, presented at Absolute Space for the Arts. When the sacred imagery of temples enters the white cube, “Absolute Realm of Immortals”becomes not merely a return, but a meditation and reconstruction of the modernity of belief. Hence, the exhibition is also titled Absolute Temple, inviting viewers to undertake a pilgrimage within this space and to witness—between the virtual and the real—the inner landscape of contemporary Taiwanese spirituality.
