Continuation of Play. The fixed acoustics, lyrics, and beats will fade away, simultaneously raising awareness towards the original audio on display. As the sounds of our daily routines are on a loop, the artists then turn them into fragmented forms cut into complex memories. By revisiting the route of endeavor in arrangement and prints, the artists are taking the audience on a journey of discovering the possibilities for recording life stories through peeping into their paintings.
Here, we see some swaying trees in the process. The snow-white form stands as if it were a mountain, visible but obscure. On the shelf, the image of helmet, radio, and cups are crystal clear. Yet, where can we find their true existence?
Visual illusions are presented in the works of both artists. While Chang repeats the printing motions to display the zooming in and out at the border of an image, Kuo chooses to keep the original substance of the materials, then trace the precise look with additional editing and styling. Both artists picked up fragments of their personal experiences, which are to be collected by the audience during the exhibition. The looks of the works shall be captured and identified by the audience, who tag everything visible with their intellectual system. However, if we choose to stop here, we wouldn’t notice the overflowing good intentions apart from the visible portions of the works.
The concept of “Continuation of Play” projects the hope for a proper and timely escape from the common routines in life. When we step away from the routines we have taken for granted, everything will look different. Instead of staring at the scenery or objects within the frame, we shall see the thinking paths of the artists, along with the visual changes. At this very moment, as sunlight slants on the ground floor of the building, the reinterpreted acoustics and imagery of daily life is on display.

About Artist
Chang, Fan-Shao-Chin
The creation primarily involves composite techniques such as image collage, printmaking, and painting, overlapping to achieve a reconfiguration of landscape viewing into two-dimensional works. Through the repeated printing characteristic of screen-like membranes using image reproduction and silkscreen, the work explores how contemporary visual states influence the experiential qualities of painting and how these can be redeployed in the composition of the image. On one hand, this approach responds to the internal emotional layers of the work, touching on memories of past lived spaces and the changes that occurred within them. On the other hand, it also reflects on the shifts in the artist’s own position by revisiting and recreating these scenes.
Kuo, Ping-En
I am currently studying at the Graduate Institute of Plastic Arts at Tainan National University of the Arts. Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in 1997. My work focuses on writing and various objects and experience carriers. For an artist, life is precious and ever-changing, like now, as I write these words. It allows me to look back at the works I've created, which have changed so much—like footprints, an unmistakable trace. I might just be the one paying attention to the steps.
