This exhibition turns “a dead end” to “a way out.”

Located amidst a densely populated school district, my early home is built tightly connected with its neighboring buildings in a dead end alley. It takes a lot of twists and turns from the traffic arteries to reach the house. The alley itself was never a part of urban road planning. Only the locals who know their way around the district know that the alley is a speedy shortcut into the school district. The “route” people took is in fact an interstitial space in between two buildings. The space thus connects two places separated by the buildings and makes a “way” out of the dead end. Similarly, the intelligent Taiwanese often find their own ways in the least expected places. Improvisations as such are found all over Taiwan.

As a commuter, my schedule is broken down and organized efficiently to ensure maximum output. Routines have become my daily norms. I’ve forgotten the absurdities, peripheries, and ordinary days for daydreams. Therefore, preparing the exhibition was a practice. By turning against common sense, I’ve found unusual moments in the most common spots, and have been through an amazing experience on the road.
