The art scene in Tainan thrives through the organization and activities of art spaces, fostering flexible and diverse developments. Since 1980, numerous stages of open exchanges and dialogues have occurred, resulting in unique artistic ecosystems viewed from various perspectives such as operators and managers. Amidst this confluence, how can spaces serve as containers to gather cross-disciplinary elements, integrate them, and express our messages through exhibitions in the most suitable way?
For the final exhibition of 2022, Absolute Space has invited independent curator MARI HOMMA from Hokkaido, Japan, to curate the exhibition titled "Through the Eyes of Hokkaido Artists." Using diverse formats like online residencies, the event aims to trigger connections between Hokkaido and Tainan. The initiative fosters direct sharing and discussions, inviting institutions like Tainan Art Museum, Zit-Dim Art Space, Taiwan Visual Art Archive, and Fotoaura institute of photography. These spaces bring insights ranging from public art institutions to alternative spaces, sparking discussions about the dynamics of the art scene in Tainan.
